11 Plus Entry Information for Wallington County Grammar School

Wallington County Grammar School converted to academy status in June 2011. It is an academically selective academy, of average size. It caters for boys in Years 7 to 11 and is coeducational in the sixth form. In 2011 the academy became a Leading Edge Partnership School, working with other schools to raise achievement. It is also a member of the Challenge Partnership programme and of PiXL 6, which is a collaboration of school leaders with a focus on the sixth form. The academy belongs to the Sutton Partnership of Secondary Schools. Although leaders and teachers share good practice between the partnership schools, provision for the academy’s students is concentrated on-site and does not include alternative provision. It has two specialisms: science and applied learning.

Wallington County Grammar School 11 Plus Exam Format

The 11 Plus Exam format for Wallington County Grammar School is the Selective Eligibility Test (SET). All schools in the London Sutton area have the same exam which can grant entry. If your child passes stage 1, they will be invited back to take part in stage 2. The exam format is as follows.

Stage 1

Paper 1	45 minute mathematics paper. It includes 50 questions with all the answers being multiple choice.
Paper 2	50 minute English containing 4 sections. Section A includes spelling and is 5 minutes long. Section B is comprehension and is 25 minutes long. Section C is also comprehension and is 10 minutes long. Section D is 10 minutes long and a comparison of the two passages.

Stage 2

Paper 1	45 minute Mathematics paper. This includes 21 questions with all answers being free response.
Paper 2	30 minutes Creative Writing task.

Some publishers have access to the exam format and produce their own mirror papers which aim to replicate what an 11 Plus exam for Selective Eligibility Test might look like.

We understand that these publishers get the information from familiarisation packs sent to parents, teachers, local tutors and pupils who have sat the test. The tests can of course change at any time and these papers only aim to give a good idea of what to expect, however, they are very useful and most parents use them at some point.

How to prepare for the Wallington County Grammar School 11 Plus Exam

Essentially you have 4 options when it comes to helping your child to prepare.

3/ A great option is a structured course. These courses gradually build up skills so you can focus on helping your child with the work provided. 4/ Online preparation. This is not something we recommend.
