Statutory Spelling Words- An 11 Plus Must
While the Government does tend to move the curriculum goalposts for KS2, at the time of writing around 200 words are prescribed as ‘must know’ during Key Stage Two.
Increasingly with 11 Plus tests we are seeing papers which are designed to credit un-coached children or untutored children who have learnt well in Key Stage Two. It goes without saying therefore that examiners do tend to look at the KS2 syllabus and will choose material directly from it. So it comes as no surprise that many of the statutory spelling words that every child is taught ( or should be taught) in Primary School have come up in 11 Plus tests.
We believe the statutory spelling lists are an absolute must for parents.
Here’s a sample of 20 of what we think are the more difficult from the statutory spelling list- why not read them out to your child and see if they can spell them- mistakes may indicate the need for more work.
Sample Statutory Spelling Words from the KS2 list.
We’ve chosen twenty of the most difficult ones, read them out to your child and see how they do.
